Happy Halloween!!!

Just a quick drop in to say Happy Halloween. We were on the road this morning but made it home in time to celebrate Halloween.

Cannon really wanted to be a pumpkin this year and Emmy wanted to be Cinderella.

We enjoyed some Covid safe trick-or-treating and seeing our neighbors from a safe distance.

Sunshine + Progression + Surprise Trip

It was another early morning treadmill run. I left my new shoes in our bedroom so I ran in my old treadmill shoes. I really would like to get another pair of shoes for the treadmill, studies have shown the using different running shoes can lower your chance of injury.

Four progression miles before it was time to get Cannon ready for school. Progression runs work well for me for early morning runs. I start out slow while still sleeping and speed up as I wake up.

it was a beautiful morning, Emmy didn’t want to join us so Cannon and I got some fun one on one time.

Emmy and I hung out then made some returns. We can drop Amazon returns at Kohl’s which is kind of brilliant because I bought Emmy a couple Christmas gifts that I wouldn’t have had we not been there.

We picked up Cannon from school and Emmy was very excited to have him home.

It it was a beautiful afternoon so we enjoyed some time at the playground. It felt so good to be out in the sun and fresh air.

In the evening we decided last minute to go on a little adventure. We threw some things in bags and set an early alarm for the morning.

Now we are off on our adventure…..more on that later.

Scandinavian Parenting + Get Outside!

Today was a no school day for Cannon and those are always my favorite days. I love the slower pace of the morning and getting to spend all day with Cannon. I can’t imagine what it will be like when we need to get both kids ready and out the door to school.

It was a beautiful sunshiny day so the kids and I decided we needed to go sledding.

We met a friend and felt so renewed to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine.

Both kids loved sledding where last year Emmy wasn’t sure.

They also played on the playground and it made me think about how we are going to tackle this crazy winter season.

I really want to read this book, but I have heard that one of the main themes is that kids need to be outside every day no matter what the weather. So I think we are going to be getting more cold weather gear and getting out!

I also really want to read this book:

Oh and I wish I had more time to sit and read.

After playing I had to run Cannon to the pediatrician’s office. He needed to get a flu shot. He was so brave and did so well, I was very proud of him.

Then we had lunch and quiet time, we got some good cuddles in.

Later we went to Target because Cannon earned a toy.

We use a reward system for Cannon where when we catch him being good he gets a coin. When he collects enough he gets to go pick out a toy.

He picked out a Hot wheels toy with a shark, he is very excited about it. We are now literally jumping the shark.

We didn’t feel like making dinner so we grabbed a pizza and ate it while we watched part of Finding Dory.

When it was bed time Cannon picked out the book “Mother Bruce”

It’s a very cute book, I love reading to him.

Best Friends + Technology

Another day another treadmill run…..

Four easy miles, my knee that I injured in July has been acting up so I am trying to be smart and baby it while also not spiraling into injury freak out.

While Cannon was at school Emmy had her two and a half year well check. She loved going to see her doctor and the fish.

She is in the 90th percentile for height, I really wonder if she will continue to be this tall. She is looking and acting so grown up! She was so brave and didn’t even flinch for her flu shot.

When Cannon got home from school I found this little card. I am not sure what the story is behind it but it made me so happy. Seeing Cannon and Emmy be best friends is one of my favorite things in life.

For the rest of the day we watched Frozen 2 (Emmy’s choice), played and ate Cesar Salads for dinner, the kids had homemade pizzas for dinner.

I had a class to teach in the evening so Cory took over kid duty and I set up my “classroom” in our home office.

Thank goodness for technology.

Have you taken any online classes before? I have taken many but I definitely prefer in person classes.

Snow Days + Crib Life Forever!

For the last couple days my runs have been indoors because we had big snow storm on Sunday and very cold temperatures today.

On Sunday we visited my parents in the morning then stayed home and watched the snow pile up the rest of the day.

We made homemade chowder, snuggled and tried on costumes. Emmy is very happy about her Cinderella accessories.

Today Cannon’s school was cancelled so I got to hang out with him all day!

We shoveled the driveway and played in the snow for a bit before we got too cold and came in to watch Spookly.

We played inside and tried not to get too bored.

We made a fun lunch of Jack-o-lantern quesadillas, guacamole and ghouls.

Emmy is now trying to convince us that she needs a big girl bed.

She pretended to sleep in Cannon’s bed to show us how good she would do. I am dreading the day we have to move her out of hew crib. Parents, when do kids start sleeping? Crib life for as long as possible!

I will be heading to bed early tonight, my alarm is set for very early so I can get up and run on the treadmill (again)

Emerald Catherine| 2 1/2 Years

Our precious, opinionated, brilliant girl is now two and a half, she now seems more like an adult than a baby.

In the last six months we have been endured a quarantine and social distancing. Emmy has weathered these changes like a champ with her best friend by her side.

We spent a lot of time playing in the back yard, I am so so glad they had each other to play and bond with.

Emmy loves being with her family and outside most of all.

Hiking and camping were big hits over the summer. It was nice to get out of our house and into the mountains.

One of the best things to come back into our lives was seeing friends at playgrounds, pools and splash-pads.

In August, Emmy helped us send Cannon back to school and seems very ready to go herself, I am definitely NOT ready for her to go.

We took a fun trip to the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone in September.

Emmy loved visiting the National Parks and “camping” in our camper. She has become a great little traveler.

Her favorite of the trip was the hissing dragon mouth cave.

I am so glad we were able to take this trip and make some fun memories during this very weird year.

Emmy is still napping between 1-2 hours a day in the afternoon. At this age Cannon had started to drop his nap and by three he was completely done napping. I am hoping Emmy keeps napping a little longer, but sometimes on weekends or when we travel it would be nice not to have to worry about naps.

Overall Emmy has taken on the last six months and Covid like a champ. She missed her grandparents the most. She amazes us everyday with the funny things she says and her sassy little attitude. She is a bright shiny light, and we love her so much!

Short and Sweet Saturday

Today was a focus on getting things done before the our first big winter storm.

We did start the day our well with pumpkin pancakes.

Never too early for Christmas PJs

We worked on getting our trailer cleaned up and winterized. I will miss our summer adventures, I am already dreaming of where we can go in the spring.

We set up a little encouragement for my mom who was doing her long run and had a little aid station for her at our house.

During nap time I got my own run in, our sweet baby treadmill is *mostly* up and running. I got in three miles with 5 x 20 sec strides in the last mile.

Photo from when Winston used to help me train!

We then had a friend ride her bike over to visit for a while outside, we haven’t seen her since last Christmas and it was so nice to catch up.

The rest of the evening flew by cuddling, having dinner and getting to bed early!

Please hope for me that our treadmill stays fixed and fine now!

Made My Year + Recovery Week

The day started out quite cold and but it was brightened by Emmy trying on her new jacket.

I was telling Cory that my steering wheel was so cold and I wished that it was heated. He informed me that it actually is heated and made my year.

After preschool drop-off Emmy and I went to Target to get a bunch of things we don’t need. Like a purple glitter witch hat.

During nap time I got in a very short run. Our treadmill is somewhat still broken so hopefully we will get it completely fixed soon. This week has been so off we our treadmill down, I decided to just call it a recovery week and not stress about it. I think my body was ready for a break anyway.

We might be looking at eight inches of snow this weekend.

It’s definitely treadmill season.

The kids and I spent some time decorating Halloween cookies.

Emmy was all about the sprinkles.

This was one of the things we didn’t need from Target.

Gloomy is Good + I May Never be Warm Again

It was a cold and gloomy day today, it’s too bad we didn’t get more rain/snow because we could really use it.

Today two fires merged and now Estes Park has been evacuated. This is such a terrible time for our state,

Emmy and I walked Cannon to school and then hit up Home Depot to get parts to hopefully fix our treadmill.

We also went to Costco to get groceries for the week.

After shopping we grabbed Cannon from school and made lunch at home. Cannon and I enjoyed some one-on-one time during Emmy’s nap.

This kid is growing up so fast.

I didn’t get up early to run because I didn’t want to run in the dark so later in the day I messaged Cory and asked him if he wanted to run all together. He was game so we planned to take the kids and run three miles when he got done with work.

They rode in the stroller most of they way but asked to get out and run.

It was very cool, lightly snowing and the wind was blowing. I have not built up my cold tolerance yet so I was felling very cold!

We stopped and played at the playground for a few minutes because heading home.

By the time we got home I felt like I may never be warm again. I will definitely need to work on my cold tolerance as winter approaches.

The kids enjoyed some hot chocolate while I ran to the grocery store to pick up our food order.

Slogging Through + Changing Perspective

Having our treadmill broken had the silver lining that it forced me to run outside to enjoy a beautiful fall morning.

Cannon didn’t have school so I got to run a little later when the sun was up.

While I loved getting out it was not my best run ever. My legs felt like they were made from concrete and running four miles felt more like twelve. It’s easy to start to think there is something wrong or all fitness has been lost but some runs just go like this. Today was just slogging through tomorrow will likely be better.

After my run and a quick breakfast the kids and I met a friend at a pumpkin patch.

It was a beautiful day and we had fun visiting the animals and checking out the pumpkins.

And of corse we had to visit the corn maze.

After the pumpkin patch we went home for lunch and nap-time.

Then we needed to run some errands but I wanted to hang out with Humphry so I sat in the third row. It’s a very different perspective from the way back.

The kids and I spent some time going through the Amazon toy catalogue. It’s fun thinking about what they might want for Christmas.

When we got home we could see the smoke from the fire burning in Boulder.

Keeping the hopes really high that we get some snow soon!
