Base + Strength Training Phase + The End of the Season

Now that we are all mostly healed from being sick it’s time to start putting in the work to build a base before specifically training for any races. I am so hopeful to soon be back out enjoying our beautiful trails.

https://www.runnersworld.com/training/a20807188/how-do-i-build-a-training-base/

As for today it was a busy day running all over doing kid tasks.

I did have time to reset up the kids’ Halloween sensory bin. It’s always more fun to play with when you get to mess it up again. On Thursdays we have to divide and conquer to get the kids to school. I take Cannon to school and Cory drops Emmy off at her preschool before going to work. I think both kids love this little one on one time we get.

After drop off I get about two and a half hours of kid free time. Today I had the luxury of getting my nails done. I thought these were a fun for Halloween.

Then I got home cleaned and made dinner in the crock pot.

At noon I get my sweet Emmy back, I love picking her up from school.

We came home for lunch, getting some work done and afternoon coffee.

In the afternoon we picked Cannon up from school then stuck around for parent teacher conferences. I love hearing about how Cannon is doing in school. We then had to rush home for the last soccer practice of the season. I will be glad to not have to rush so much on Thursday nights but I will miss his team, it was a good one this season.

I forgot to take a picture at practice tonight but here is one from our first practice in August.

What phase of training are you in now?

Another Trip…

We started the day with a little bit of school before heading back to the doctor for Cannon.

Cannon still has a cough three and half weeks after falling in with some trouble taking deep breaths so back to the doctor we go.

I love our pediatrician and she prescribed some medicine that I really hope will help Cannon get all the way better.

After the appointment we went to the park because it was too beautiful of a day not to. We spent the rest of the day finishing school work and visiting the library.

We came home and played outside until it was time for Turkey Chili for dinner.

I am going to be sad when I have to pack away these fun ghost bowls and platter (both on sale now) in a couple weeks!

I spent the evening dreaming of our next big trip. We have been discussing Italy, UK, Norway or somewhere tropical like Costa Rica. I would love to go to Peru but want the kids to be a little older for that trip. Where was your favorite place you have visited or trip you have taken?

Fall Bucket List + She Did It!

We had a perfect fall morning at the playground before school drop off.

It was cold enough to need jackets, hats and gloves for the morning but warmed up nicely in the afternoon.

It’s always nice to start our day outside playing.

My parents have been ill so Cannon and I dropped off a care package and took their dogs out for a walk. Doing things with Cannon makes everything ten times more fun.

After school Cory took the kids to practice riding bikes.

Emmy Rode all on her own for first time, we are so proud of her!

We are pretty far into the season already but we always have a fall bucket list to work through so here is this years:

  • Run a family 5k hopefully a real turkey trot
  • Go to a pumpkin Patch
  • Drink Fall themed beverages from Starbucks
  • Share hot chocolate with the kids
  • Spend Saturday playing soccer games
  • Get lost in a corn maze
  • Attend a fall festival
  • Carve Jack-o-lanterns
  • Get dressed up and go trick or treating
  • Bake pies
  • Make Boo Baskets for the kids
  • Make fun halloween themed snacks
  • Go for a hike in the mountains
  • Play in a pile of leaves
  • Go camping
  • Make fall crafts with the kids
  • Put up Fall/Halloween/Thanksgiving Book Nooks

Monday Matters + Finally Fall

Weirdly I love Monday mornings. Weekends together are THE BEST but I also love getting back to our routine and doing school with my littles.

One of the things I love the most about doing hybrid school is the new books we get to read together. I am also learning a lot about how kids learn to read and write.

We spent “recess” at one of our favorite playgrounds

It’s finally feeling and looking like fall here in the front range.

We also had errands and things to take care of including Costco and groceries. Emmy talked me into some buying some Halloween cookies and she was highly entertained when they made her lips purple.

Fall Festivities + Mini Book Nook

We spent pretty much our entire day at Elitch Gardens with our close friends.

Elitch Gardens is our little local amusement park (it was once a six flags). Our friends invited us to enjoy the Halloween decorations and Trick-or-Treating there together. I love how much these kids love being together.

When we got home Cory really wanted the kids to watch The Labyrinth.

It was hilarious to watch a movie from the 80s. I was worried it would scare the kiddos but they liked it.

I finally grabbed a picture of Cannon’s mini book-nook for Halloween and I love it so much! At what age will he not let me decorate his room anymore (don’t tell me I will cry).

Do you have a favorite 80s movie?

Soccer Saturdays

We spent our morning/afternoon at the soccer fields and I wasn’t mad about it.

Cannon was finally well enough to play his game and Emmy was ready to play as well. Both kids are loving soccer and I am sad we only have one week left of this season.

Right after Cannon’s game was over we threw the kids into their costumes and headed to our local “mall”. They were hosting a halloween celebration and any excuse to celebrate a holiday is a good idea to me.

We had fun trick-or-treating and and playing some fun games. Walking past the restaurants influenced us into taking Thai food home for dinner.

We watched Corpse Bride and made peppermint steamers for the evening, and it was close to a perfect Saturday.

Are you in the thick of kids/sports/holiday weekends?

A Half Day + A Full Marathon

Today was a pretty fun day. We took a half day of school (because we do what we want 😉 and our school district had most of the week off.

We met friends at a pumpkin patch and had such a good time.

These two enjoyed some cuddles and Halloween movies before spending the rest of the afternoon outside playing and bike riding. The weather has been too warm but nice for being outside.

I am excitedly thinking about races in 2023, even though I am currently still too sick to run. Maybe that’s why I am researching races with the extra time that I should be training.

[Source]

My eye is on the Run Through Time in Salida…..I have wanted to run this race for years.

Anyone else planning their 2023 race calendar? What is your favorite race you have ever done?

Lots of Firsts + Some Fall Favorites

Today was filled with lots of fall favorites.

Emmy had her first ever field trip to a pumpkin patch. It was so cute to see her with her little class mates. Cannon had school today so we were definitely missing him.

Emmy also buckled herself into her own car seat for the first time and is very proud of herself.

We had to run some errands but also found a new to us playground, which is always fun.

After grabbing Cannon from school we found another playground to go to for the first time. I think this is the most fall looking playground picture I have ever seen.

Cannon had soccer practice after a rushed dinner. It’s the time of year that it’s warm in the afternoon for a couple hours but cools down really fast. We were all super cold when leaving at 6:45.

Since we are now squarely in the middle of fall I though I would share some things I am loving:

This blood orange flavor of spindrift is a new favorite! I like changing up (everything) for the seasons and this one is great for the fall. I love their cranberry/raspberry for the holiday season.

This pumpkin mug from Target is so fun and cute, coffee is even better in a seasonal mug!

The art in this Hocus Pocus book is gorgeous, we got ours at Costco but it’s also on Amazon.

Back to It + 12 Weeks Left

Today was such a goos quiet little day. We are STILL trying to fully recover from our illness and I am so ready to be able to breathe and not have to hear my sweet kiddos hacking. I am going to try to get back to PT, and lifting tomorrow morning, cardio will hopefully be back very soon as well.

We had a good morning doing school work then went out for our nature study. Visiting the same natural space every week is one of our favorite parts of our school.

It was a beautiful fall day and it was hard to make ourselves go home for lunch. We are doing a little until on “mini beasts” that is so fun. We made hand print spiders and I couldn’t love it more.

We came home and spent most of the afternoon outside playing. We have spent way too much time inside while sick and now I just want to be outside as much as possible. Luckily the weather has made it easy to be outside.

Since we were buy enjoying the outdoors and clearing out the kids’ outdoor toys here is some randomness from the day:

Loving this apple flavored coffee in the afternoon.

Apparently today was Day of the Girl…..

I am loving THIS chili, with hint of lime chips in THESE ghost bowls.

Only 12 weeks left in the year! What will you do with this time?

A Joyful, Loving Bigfoot

I LOVED this article with Courtney Dauwalter about her training. It gave me some hope and lots of motivation that Courtney does 30 minutes of PT everyday to stay healthy on the trails.

Please go read this article, it’s so good and will make you love Courtney too.
