I spoke Too Soon + Tragedy!

So I guess I spoke too soon yesterday when I said I was going to be running outside (Acceptable Risk). I did a warm up taking Cannon to school of two miles, which was lovely, but also concerning that the sun is coming up so late now!

I was planning on actually doing a planned “workout” on the treadmill later.

To my horror Cory broke the treadmill, luckily he wasn’t hurt. We have had this machine for many years and we bought it used so it has seen many miles. It seems like it was just a bolt that was sheered and should be able to be fixed. I’m sad that I won’t be able to use the treadmill for the next few days (maybe weeks?!?) before we can get a replacement bolt. We are going into a icy dark season so having a treadmill is definitely a need.

Possibly this could be a good things for me, forcing me to be more creative about getting outside to get my runs in.

My planned six miles ended up only being two given the circumstances today. Fingers crossed the rest of the week looks better.

After taking Cannon to school this morning my day unfolded as usual. Emmy and I met friends to play, it was colder than I would normally like for a playground but it’s worth it to see friends.

We ate lunch, cuddled, read books, played and just enjoyed our day.

I taught class in the evening, covering sampling distributions then relaxed a bit watching Vuelta a España before heading to bed later than I should have.

Four Weeks In + Acceptable Risk

Today was a typical recovery day, I am almost four weeks deep into my 100 day run streak. Running everyday has become much easier now that it’s just a regular part of everyday. Today was just two miles commuting Cannon to school but it’s a great shake out after a long run.

I am interested to see how I feel after 100 days.

After dropping Cannon off at school Emmy and I met some friends at a local park, it was a little chilly but definitely worth it for good company and “fresh” air.

Once we picked up Cannon, Emmy decided that lunch time really needed a crown.

After nap time and a few loads of laundry we played in the basement.

Thinking seriously about running outside tomorrow morning…..

It should be fine.

Ever done a run streak, if so how long? My longest was 50 days.

What is acceptable run risk for you? – spoiler….I probably won’t run outside.

All In – Week 6

Even with all of the smoke hanging around it was a pretty good week!

This is how the week went down:

———–

Monday:  Just two quick treadmill miles to shake off the week before. This is basically a rest day for me.

Tuesday: 5 miles on the treadmill as a progression run.

Wednesday: Just 1.5 miles as I wasn’t feeling my best

Thursday: Six miles on the treadmill with a fast finish.

Friday:  4 easy miles on the trails

Saturday: 3 more trail miles

Sunday: 11 miles on the treadmill. Really would like to move these long runs outside.

______________________________________

Totals: 32.5 miles – Finally feeling like I am making a consistent progress to some base mile. I still don’t know for sure that racing in 2021 looks like but I want to be ready for whatever event we decide works for us.

How was your week of running?

Long Run Sunday + Last Game

I woke up early this morning to get my long run in, it was so so nice to finally feel like I am back in a routine with a Sunday long run. Ever since my injury in July I have been wanting to get back here. I ran on the treadmill because it was well before sunrise.

I watched About Time on Netflix while I was running. I haven’t seen this movie in years but I love it. If you haven’t seen it please go watch it, it’s so good!

When I was done, Cory whipped up some eggs for me while I showered. It’s very nice having a supportive partner.

I had to get in my run early because Cannon had his last soccer game of the season. It has been fun to watch Cannon play with his teammates and learn the game. We will miss having this activity for him.

*picture is from an earlier game, today we had a drizzly cool day. It was much needed and appreciated with all of the fires we have here in Colorado!

After Cannon’s game we had my parents and brother over for a pizza party to celebrate. It was nice to get together and celebrate our little soccer player. We are already looking forward to the spring season.

Later Cannon and Cory went to the park to ride bikes and play. When Emmy work up we went to meet them with her scooter. She also decided she needed to wear her pumpkin costume.

At 4 PM I was already ready for sweatpants and House Hunter International.

Getting up at 4 am to run 11 miles makes me a lump by 4 pm.

We had veggie burgers and fruit for dinner then got the kiddos off to bed for the night.

No matter how tired they are they never want to go to bed.

Then it was time in the recovery boots while getting ready for the week ahead.

Day in Dillion + Dressing Up

We decided this morning that we wanted to get out of the house and go for a hike in the mountains (taking advantage of this warm fall).

We drove to Dillion, Colorado to hike near the reservoir. It was beautifully clear, which was a nice change from all the smoke on the front range.

Emmy hiked the first mile with us enjoying the view.

Then she grabbed a ride and a short nap.

Cannon hiked the entire three miles and did amazing!

We love this little hiker!

On our way home we got a text from my mom saying that another fire started just north of Boulder.

Please, please do a rain dance for us, we are having the worst fire year in Colorado history and it is just so sad.

We came home to find the Emmy’s costume, we had to order a smaller size.

It fits perfectly and she loves being Cinderella this year.

Just flashing back to last year Tinker Bell and Peter Pan.

Double Run

This morning I was able to sleep in a bit and go (OUTSIDE) for a run. It was a cool morning at only 27 degrees and a nice change from the heat.

Cory has every other Friday off so he took Cannon to school then went for a run with Emmy. He is much better at pushing the double than I am.

They had some great bonding time while I got four easy miles in on my favorite trails.

After my run Emmy and I hit up a playground with some friends until it was time to pick up Cannon from school.

After lunch and naps we decided to take the bikes up to a park to get some practicing in.

Quickly our clear day had smoke fall from the north.

I feel so terrible for anyone impacted by these terrible fires, in an already terrible year. I hope that we see some weather that will help contain these fires and that everyone will remain safe.

We went home to find dinner ready because I threw together Cream Cheese Chicken Chili in the crock pot. I love easy dinners so much, and this one is delicious!

Netflix and Treadmill + Almost as Good

My day started early like most days, up at 4:15 to get some coffee down before running six miles on the treadmill.

Completed my run as 5 miles east with the last mile as a “fast finish”. Done before anyone else in the house was up.

I watched the first episode of the Bachelorette while I ran…very unsure about this season.

I am planning on doing a virtual half marathon on Halloween weekend, I am thinking I might just run it on the treadmill. Seems to fit with the theme of life right now.

It was picture day at school for Cannon so we practiced good smiles.

and Emmy collected leaves.

We are finally getting some more fall like weather here and it’s been nice. I can’t wait to get out and run in it more!

Emmy and I hit up Costco for the week, nothing too exciting other than the holiday flavors of La Croix are out.

In the afternoon the the kids went to the park to ride bikes (and run) again.

We ended the day with salads from Costa Vida…almost as good as Cafe rio!

And watching The Willoughbys on Netflix.

Pretty cute.

Lazy Days + The Perfect Fuel

Today is one of my favorite days of the week because Cannon doesn’t have school so we get to hang out all day together. It’s nice to have a lazy morning and then go to the park to hang out with friends.

We took a lap around the lake then played at the playground.

It was such a beautiful morning.

On our way home we dropped by the ballot drop-box so I could officially turn in my vote.

We had lunch and nap time at home, Emmy has been napping around 12:30-2:30 most days.

After naps we made pumpkin bread together.

It’s fun to bake together….

but it also takes three times as long……but I mean, look at that face.

The bread turned out well so we took some over to my parents to share.

This bread is the perfect pre-run fuel!

We then made our favorite clam chowder for dinner.

Now off to get things ready for my long-ish mid week run tomorrow.

Olympic Excitement + VOTE!

It was an early morning here, a 4:45 alarm to get five miles in on the treadmill.

Then it was run around get ready for school time. We are still not used to Cannon going to school four days a week.

Emmy and I used our time in the morning to make some returns to Target and hang out together.

After picking up Cannon we had a fun surprise for him. My parents bought him a fancy new bike so that he can learn to ride with pedals.

It was so fun to surprise him with it!

Anyone taught their kiddo to ride a bike? We are open to all suggestions!

We then came home for lunch (cob salad for me and home made pizza for the kiddos) and nap time.

While I was scrolling I saw Emma Coburn’s post about the olympics next year and I got goose bumps, I can’t wait to watch the games. I really hope they can safely compete in 2021!

In the evening Cannon wanted to go play more with his bike so Cory took both kids to the park.

Our driveway and street are too steep for learning to ride.

The kids had a great time!

I spent that time getting ready to teach for the evening.

After class Cory and I spent time reading over our ballot information and researching the propositions. This year is a BIG year for us here in the US and We wanted to be informed and to get our ballots in early. It took about two hours but it was worth it to be informed voters. Here in Colorado we have mail in voting and it’s awesome.

*Come on 2020, let’s and this on a good note*

I am looking forward to dropping my ballot at an official ballot box tomorrow. Please take the time to be informed and vote!

Are you excited for the olympics? Do you think they will compete in 2021?

I Almost Forgot + Simply Joys

After a stormy day yesterday the smoke has been cleared out of the air revealing a gorgeous morning.

We could see the mountains again!

I enjoyed two miles with the kids before school to shake out yesterday’s long run.

While Cannon was at school Emmy and I met some friends at a playground, enjoyed the sunshine and catching up.

Emmy was very happy when Cannon was home from school.

I made them a very random assortment of food for lunch, I never know how much or what they will eat, it changes day to day.

I enjoyed a salad and Kombutcha for lunch, this is one of my favorite meals.

After nap time we hung out in the backyard enjoying the mild 70 degree weather. The wind blew a ton of leaves and pine needles out of our trees so we have some work to do in the yard.

While I made dinner Cory and kids goofed around, they love when Dad is around.

It was one of those days that I almost forgot about the pandemic, it was nice and simple and I spent the day counting my blessings and feeling thankful.
