She Did It!

I can’t wait to see the documentary about Des Linden’s record breaking 50k, for now it was nice to see clips in this news report:

We didn’t get up to too much today, it snowed so we didn’t head out to any playgrounds. Instead we spent our time prepping for our trip this weekend.

We are excited to get away for Emmy’s birthday and celebrate her as much as possible. We are a little concerned about the weather since we have snow this week and we are planning on pulling our trailer through the mountains. But we are hoping for the best and planning on adventure!

Emmy’s hair here is my favorite! Messy hair, bright eyes, ready to take on anything!

Do you have any fun adventures planned?

It’s Happening!!!

This is happening today!

Des Lindens 50k attempt is happening today and I’m pretty excited to follow along.

I feel like our couch hangs look a lot like Des’ also why does Emmy look like a teenager here? At this same age Cannon seemed to look so much younger.

Cannon circa 2019

Why does time move so quickly?

Today was a very normal Monday, Cannon had school, Emmy had a playdate at a playground. We enjoyed lunch together and spent the afternoon at Costco and picking up our trailer. We are hoping to go on an adventure for Emmy’s birthday but

Soccer + We Like To Hike!

It was a wonderful spring weekend! Cannon had soccer on Saturday morning, he really seem to be loving it this season.

Picture from last fall, I was so busy cheering I didn’t get any photos!

We then spent the afternoon at my parents house, it’s weird because I feel like the kids have changed so much since we used to spend time there last year.

On Sunday morning we went to NCAR in Boulder for a hike.

We had a great time, I am always so impressed with how great the kids do.

Emmy still enjoys riding in the pack.

On the way home we passed the King Soopers where there was the mass shooting recently. It was very sobering to see the windows boarded up and the tributes along the fence. I hope that we can do something to help stop these senseless acts of violence soon!

Tell me something from your weekend.

Treat Day + Next Adventure!

It was a beautiful day so we took as much advantage as possible.

Something about wearing masks makes them look down whenever I want a photo.

It was a treat day, cake pops for them……giant coffee for Cory and me.

We enjoyed snack outside while trying to clean up our yard. I LOVE the summer and having the yard come back but it’s definitely adds to the chore list.

I had a class to teach in the evening so Cory and the kids went to the park to ride scooters.

I really love that they are best friends!

I have been really itching to get back out and explore more…I have this unofficial goal of taking the camper out at least once a month for an entire year. Campendium is one of our favorite resources for finding great camp sites.

I can’t wait to go running out on these trails!

Hold Them Tight + Let’s Hype It Up!

Yesterday started out as a normal day for us, I ran on the treadmill in the morning, then enjoyed a slower morning because Cannon didn’t have school.

We met some friends at the playground, Cannon was very excited to see some of his friends.

Cannon got a haircut in the afternoon, I can’t believe how fast he is growing up!

I am pretty excited to follow Des Linden go for the 50k world record, also this video makes me want to visit Arizona so bad! We have a trip planned in December and I can’t wait.

Des posted about how she is hyping up the 50k attempt and I 100% disagree with Karl. I think it’s great that she is hyping her attempt, our sport needs it especially women’s sports. Also she should go about it in whatever way she likes.

Then we received news that a very healthy young family member was having very concerning symptoms. After hours at the ER we found out he had an aneurism. We are waiting for more information on how things will move forward and what caused this issue. The night was spent up, waiting for news and googling symptoms. Both Cory and I are running on very little sleep and jittery with worry.

Things like this really puts into perspective what is important. For me, like many, that’s health and family. Hold them tight while you can friends.

What in your life is most precious to you?

Enjoying the Dark + Finding Your Flow

Yesterday I actually dug out my old trusty headlamp and took to the trails in the dark. I actually LOVE running in the dark when the rest of the world seems like they are still sleeping. An owl greeted me on the way out of our house and I enjoyed the cool morning and the light of the moon.

Just three easy flowy miles for me before the morning hustle with the kids.

On the run I listened to Ali’s podcast with Steph Bruce

Such a good episode and made me so excited about the olympics this summer, I really hope they can be held safely.

I came across an email from Territory Run Co. (love their stuff, I mean, look at this cute gear!)

They are also hosting a free challenge.

You can sign up HERE for a Find Your Flow Challenge:

How it works:

You sign up with a click below FOR FREE. Yes, we know how it sucks to be in a running rut so we are giving this away for free.

Each day you will be sent an email with a new idea or tool to implement for your next run to bring about better energy and flow.

This includes:

1. Methods to change your mindset before and during a run.

2. Changing the way you measure the quality of a run.

3. Adding in components that bring about a state of flow.

It all comes together on the last day of this challenge where you find that zen like flow.

This will begin on April 12th. I can’t wait to see you there.

Building a Base + Dropped Me

My day started nice and early with a 4:30 AM wake up call, it’s been awhile since I have gotten up so early. It’a so hard to get up the first few days but it is the best way to start the day.

I got in 4ish miles before the day got going (my laces were tied while running). I think I might dust off the head lamp and run outside tomorrow morning. Focusing completely on building a good solid base and consistency now before adding anything else.

Another thing we haven’t done in a while was walk to school. These kiddos really are best friends.

After walking together for awhile they decided it was time to run it in and dropped me.

While Cannon was in school, Emmy and I met friends at a playground and enjoyed the beautiful morning. I love hearing my friends talk about getting their vaccinations, I think we are all ready for Covid to stop dominating our lives and get back to living fully.

Emmy is still hit or miss about naps, today she didn’t want to nap, mainly because she was so excited about playing outside with Cannon.

We were all pretty excited to have matching sandals for this summer.

#RunnersToes

We also enjoyed dinner outside on our deck again. Today was the last night of really great weather for a little while so we enjoyed it while we could.

The Trail Running Film Festival is launching very cool content this month:

The Forward Motion Festival will combine a livestream style show(April 24th) with a week(April 17-24) of conversations and content from race directors, athletes, filmmakers and more running professionals. The livestream will begin Saturday, April 24th at 5:30pm with a ~15 minute musical performance from the four piece stringband, Chumlilies. If you can’t make the live show, you can watch anytime that following week until Sunday, May 2nd at 11:59pm.

The Trail Running Film Festival is committed to being active collaborators working towards an equitable future where everyone-—all ethnicities and races, all genders, all sexual orientations, all religions, all countries of origin, all languages, all abilities, and all ages–is celebrated on trails and within our broader culture. When you purchase your ticket to the Forward Motion Festival, you’ll have an opportunity to donate to our DEI Film Grant Fund. The money raised this Spring will be earmarked for our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion program and dedicated towards our goals of increasing representation and funding for stories that celebrate a diverse spectrum of cultural experiences within our sport.

Easter Weekend Recap

We had the best Easter weekend, with beautiful weather and lots of family time.

Saturday started out with a neighborhood easter egg hunt, both kids are really into egg hunts right now so that makes everything so fun.

They got to meet the Easter Bunny too, you

You can’t tell from the photos but they were both really excited. In 2019 Emmy was very scared of the bunny.

Baby Emmy – Easter 2019

Then we needed to rush off for Cannon’s first soccer practice/game of the year.

Cannon did so well and I was so impressed with how much he has improved since the fall!

We ate almost every meal outside.

We prepped Easter baskets.

Emmy was very excited about her chocolate bunny…..she is a very smart girl.

My parents and brother came over for Easter brunch, now that we all have (or at least started) the vaccine process it’s so nice to be able to get together! The kids got to have one more egg hunt in the back yard.

Easter 2020

Easter last year was fun but a lonely and very uncertain.

In the afternoon we went to the playground because it was just too nice not to.

One more meal outside rounded out our weekend.

I hope you had a wonderful weekend!
