Cannon // 6 Month Check In
Over the weekend we celebrated Cannon’s half birthday. Time is flying and Cannon is learning and growing so fast!
He is now 17 lbs 5 oz (46%) and 27 in (67%)
Over the last month we got to run our first Turkey Trot 5k as a family and celebrate Cannon’s first Thanksgiving. While Cannon didn’t get to try any of the food he really seemed to enjoy the run
He can now sit up completely unassisted and rolls both ways. He still can fit into most of his 3-6 month clothes but all his pants are a little short on him so he will be moving to 9 month clothes soon. It does make me sad to pack up his stuff as he out grows it but it’s just so fun to watch him grow.
It has been pretty cold this last month so we haven’t been able to get out on as many walks and runs as I would like but when we do get a chance Cannon loves the snow so much. I may have to learn to ski or snowboard just so I can take him.
Cannon also met Santa for the first time, no tears this year, but I bet we aren’t so lucky next year.
Luckily for me, just in the last week naps seem to be getting a little better. Hopefully this trend will keep going and we will have more of a consistent napper. We continue to be spoiled with overnight sleep between 10-12 hours every night!
We are about to start eating solids after being exclusively breast fed for the last 6 months, I think Cannon is more than ready!
Now we are just waiting for Santa to visit. My heart is exploding with joy over celebrating Christmas with my little family.

Weekly Rundown – Run Focus
I haven’t done a Weekly rundown in a while, I am hoping to be more consistent in posting these as training really ramps up for 2017 races, I am SOOOO excited.
I am linking up with Jessie at The Right Fits and Jess Runs ATL to recap last weeks training.
———–
This week was mainly focused on running (more on that in a separate post).
Monday: A quick 2.42 mile run with my favorite little buddy in the running stroller. As much as I love our BOB stroller it is much more of a workout to run with it!
Tuesday: 3 miles on the treadmill with 1 minute tempo intervals, this felt so good! It always helps make the time fly on the treadmill when I have work to do =) After my run I was able to squeeze in some quick core and lower body exercises before nap time was over. In the evening I joined my mom for a swim. It was SOOOOO nice to swim. Cannon has been fighting naps so he is often over tired in the afternoon and a little crabby so getting into a calm, quite pool really helped me find my happy place.
Wednesday: 21 day fix upper body strength workout
Thursday: 2.14 mile run (outside, YAY) and full body strength workout
Friday: It was cold and snowy on Friday and my phone died from cold immediately after taking this picture but the solo miles were so enjoyable. Now that I am a mom I relish my time to get out and run so much more. I am so grateful that Cory is always supportive and happy to take on baby duty (in fact, I think he loves the time alone with Cannon).
Saturday: Saturday was super busy so I jumped on the treadmill for 2.6 miles. I kinda felt awful, it was just one of those days that my legs felt heavy and hard to move, there was lots of walking to warm up and cool down. Somedays are better than others, and I was glad to at least get moving a little. I love watching Ginger Runner films while running. Reminds me that putting in the work now will allow me to enjoy hours on the trails when summer gets here.
Sunday: 7 mile run with both my boys, it’s so nice when we get to run together. It’s such a great time for us to talk while we get some miles in.
Totals:
Running: 21.3 miles
Swimming: 1200 yds (just once, but I am working on getting a pool I can go to more regularly)
Strength: 3 sessions
As always it’s a work in progress, I am hoping to try some new strength training classes this week, a spin class and get in the pool more if I am lucky!
Cannon // 5 Month Check In
Cannon just turned 5 months old!
He is now 16 lbs 12 oz (53%) and 26.5 in (73%)
This was such a fun month for us! Cannon is such a sweet happy little boy. He always greets me with a smile and loves to cuddle and play. It is SO much fun to be his mom, I love it more than I could have imagined.
The biggest change this month for us was that I left my full time job to spend more time with Cannon. We put Cannon in daycare when I went back to work originally and we loved the “school” we sent him to but things weren’t as good as could have been. I felt like I barely had any time with Cannon and my life revolved around, bottles. Cleaning bottles, filling bottles, packing bottles, pumping into bottles and repeat. One of the difficult things was that Cannon does not take a bottle well, he won’t eat much from a bottle and complains the entire time he is eating. While he was eating okay, thinking about how my baby wasn’t as happy as he could be was really difficult for me. After lots of tears and long conversations we decided it would be best for me to leave my job and work part-time from home.
We also celebrated Cannon’s first Halloween. My parents bought him a beautiful polar bear costume but it was SO HOT in October that we had to go with a back-up pumpkin costume.
Cannon rolled over for the first time this month and sat up unassisted just this last week. It’s so fun to watch him grow, develop and learn.
We had a big sleep regression this month. Cannon had been sleeping well at night between 6 and 8 hours straight. Then after 4 months he started having trouble sleeping through the night. We hadn’t planned on moving him into his own room to sleep until around 6 months, but we were waking him up at night so it seemed like the right time to move him. Sleep was still not great so I got the book Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Baby The book has helped a lot and we have gotten up 11 hours of sleep overnight. Our naps are still very short so hopefully we can keep improving on that! Any mamas out there have tips on how to consolidate naps? We are only getting about 30-45 minutes at a time.
We finally had our first snow and Cannon seemed to really love it and made a snow angle when he was laid down in the snow.
We are so excited to celebrate Cannon’s first thanksgiving and Christmas with friends and family.

Friday Favorites #3
Everyone in our house is loving Coconut oil. The kind people at Skinny & Co sent me a sample pack of their products when they heard how much I am loving coconut oil. I have been using it on my hair, which is so nice since Colorado has been so dry and I have long crazy hair. But the best uses have been for me and my baby. Coconut oil is really helped with some breast feeding issues we were having, and we use it as moisturizer for Cannon. We checked with our pediatrician and she said Coconut oil was a great all natural nipple cream and lotion for a baby. There are so many other uses as well, and it smells amazing!!!
Lindsey Hine’s podcast I’ll Have Another is super fun and a must listen for anyone, but especially women runners. I love listening to it while running, commuting or just cleaning my house. I have been catching up on old episodes, I will be sad when I catch up and have to wait a week for new ones!
I am loving these tiny Saucony shoes. They are super tiny and cute, I think Cannon’s feet have never been small enough to fit in them (the boy has giant boat feet). We gave these shoes to my parents back in October 2015 with a tag that read “Grandma and Grandpa est. June 2016” it was such a fun way to tell them that we were expecting and they would be grandparents. Such happy memories!
I am super loving this homemade Cherry Balsamic Dressing it’s super easy to make and a fun change up.
What are you loving this week?
It’s Okay to Struggle…
The last few weeks have been a real struggle for me. before it sounds like I am complaining I want to say that complaining is not the intention of this post. Life is overflowing with love and intense joy right now. All the firsts for Cannon are so fun and I love getting to know his personality more and more.
But there are still days that I really struggle and feel like I can’t get my sh*t together.
I have really been struggling with running lately. I love running so much but it has not been coming back easily. Every mile step is a struggle sometimes. On an easy 4 mile run the other day I was shuffling along, beating myself up for how hard it felt. But then it occurred to me that I should just embrace the struggle. It’s difficult, the comeback is slow and sometimes painful. I can’t seem to run much further than 8 miles before things start to fall apart. But it’s my journey and I am convinced if I keep up my PT and slogging along, someday running will feel light and fast and fun again.
Again I don’t want to come off as ungrateful, I just like to keep it real on this little space of the internet. And hey, it’s okay to struggle sometimes.
Friday Favorites #2
It’s Friday and I couldn’t be happier that the weekend is almost here. Cory was out of town this week for work so I didn’t get as much exercise or rest as I would like. I am looking forward to starting the weekend off on a great foot.
Here’s to somethings that I am loving this week:
#30thankfuldays on Instagram – It’s fun to focus on things that I am thankful for everyday, especially this week when tensions were high.
Brew Dr. Kombucha being sold at my local store, it is one of my favorite brands of kombucha.
Homemade Cranberry Orange Bread – I love finding new holiday recipes and this one did not disappoint. Our lovely neighbor mowed our front lawn for us, how is that for random kindness. I baked them a loaf of this bread as a thank you.
Sorel’s Major Moto Boot – I am in love with these boots, they are super comfortable and will be great once winter finally arrives here in Colorado
Is there anything you are loving this week? It’s time to start gathering ideas for gifts for loved ones!
Weekly Rundown – Under Water
I am linking up with Jessie at The Right Fits and Jess Runs ATL to recap last weeks training.
———–
I am still working on getting in all my workouts as planned. They key seems to be determination and flexibility. It also means 4am alarms, lost sleep and a very supportive husband. I am still committed to building strength while I continue to contemplate long term plans.
Monday: Dirty Thirty strength training
Tuesday: 3 mile run and Upper Body Fix
Wednesday: 2.5 mile run
Thursday: 3.6 mile run and Lower Body Fix from 21 Day Fix
Friday: 2.5 mile run
Saturday: family walk and fun at our neighborhood fall fest
Sunday: 7.5 mile long run and 1300 yd swim (so good to be back in the pool!)
Total: About 19 miles of running and 5.5 hours of training. It’s a work in progress, hoping to get my training time up to at least 12 hours a week in the next month or so as I continue to figure out how to juggle everything.
Cannon // 4 Month Check In
My precious little guy turned 4 months old this week.
He is now 15 lbs 3oz (44%) and 25.75 in (76%)
I can’t believe how much he has changed in such a short time. Already I see tiny little newborns and miss those early days. That said I wouldn’t go back as Cannon is more and more fun and interactive than ever.
The last month had much less big adventures and was more about trying to settle into life. Things feel very hectic most of the time and I feel like most days revolve around, getting bottles ready for Cannon to go to school, filling them with milk or cleaning them out.
We did celebrate fall this month by going to a pumpkin patch for the first time with Grandma and Grandpa. I love having my parents close (they live 2 miles away) and they love being with Cannon as much as possible.
We took Cannon on his first hike, he seemed to love it and even took a nap which is unheard of for this kid. I think we have an outdoor enthusiast on our hands!
Cannon’s favorite things right now are assisted standing and baths.
This month was also hard because Cannon got sick TWICE! Not too surprising when you have a little one in day care but it still breaks my heart when he doesn’t feel good.
He is finally feeling better and we are looking forward to the fun of his first Halloween.

Thursday: 2.5 mile run in the morning and Pilates Fix in the evening
