Why do you blog?

If you write a blog do you ever step back and think about why you write it? I do sometimes and it seems over time that the reasons are evolving. I was inspired to start a blog because I was stalking reading other peoples blogs and I needed a profile to be able to comment. When I first started this blog it was as a journal for myself, I wanted to capture all of the big a little moments while training for my first triathlon.

Now I could have done this and kept it private but I put it out there in the world anyway, no one was reading it and I didn’t post very often but I still enjoyed it. As my training progressed I started reading some blogs more regularly and posting more often. I still love that I can look back at what was thinking, doing and feeling last year but the blog has taken on more for me now. There are a few bloggers I have connected with and it has become a place of support where people “get” me. There are a few goals I have for my blog going forward, I would really like to deliberately meet some of the bloggers I love in this upcoming year.

I may never be the athlete that wins the race or contemplates going pro, but I could be the one to make people think hey “if she can do it, then I can too”. I hope to take on ironman with a twisted femur, asthma and a demanding career, I dare to dream that I can run an ultra-marathon in the mountains of Colorado.

(Running up the flatirons in Boulder)

I believe that I can do these things if I work hard enough and keep a smile on my face.

So the questions of the day are:
Why do you blog?
What do you dare to dream that you can do?

I am not sure why I blog. Sometimes it seems like a real chore. Sometimes there are things I would like to write about but I don’t feel comfortable sharing too much. I especially feel bad when nobody comments or it seems that I am talking to dead air. Just my experience

I don’t really know why I blog but I do enjoy the interaction that it brings with people of like minds. Plus, I have met a few of my blogging friends and now they have become training partners. I think that is why I like it the most.

I love your goals! Mine is to do a full Ironman and to someday make it to the big island of Kona to race! That is a very big dream for me anyway!

Timely post for me. I just started blogging (though I’ve been commenting for over a year now.) I started blogging because blogs, like yours, inspired me. And I really wanted to become more involved in the blogging/triathlon community.

I dare to dream doing a full ironman. And making a decent chocolate chip cookie.

I blog because it’s cheaper than therapy. Seriously though, I enjoy thinking about what I do and I just put on on paper so to speak. It’s also kind of my way to get away from the world of daily life.

I started out blogging a few years back just to get my training and thoughts on “paper”. Then people started following me and I was like “wth? people actually want to read this crap?” and now I just blog because I have met some great people through the blog world and I would like to continue to stay connected to all of these wonderful people.

I would really love to do a full Ironman or an Ultra someday. Those are both on my goal list….maybe I’ll see you at one of those events. 🙂

Oh and I realized after you commented on my post today that I forgot to mention the race that I signed up for. It is the Carlsbad half in January!

I started my blof, it was actually a team blog, and the team broke up before we even really got started, then it was about myself, but its changed over the years, its more about everything and everyone.

What I love about blogging is the community, I basically call it a blogger family, you wrote “There are a few bloggers I have connected with and it has become a place of support where people “get” me” I have the exact same thing, I call it “my circle” a handful of bloggers who I trust, we email, text, call each other, even visit each other, great, great people.

The thing I love about blogging, is that everyone gets each other, we follow other bloggers because we all have the same common interest …. endurance sports. And we get the ups, the downs, the highs, the struggles. Alot of our “everyday people” dont, but the blogging family does.

Sorry for making a novel, but one last thing, you wrote “I may never be the athlete that wins the race” With that, I leave you with a quote I read today by Dave Scott

“If you set a goal for yourself and are able to achieve it, you have won your race. Your goal can be to come in first, to improve your performance, or just finish the race its up to you.”
