I wanted to write a post covering a day in the life on a day that I am not working on campus. It’s not that these days are so exciting or glamorous but I want to be able to remember what the days were like when it was just Cannon and me. This is also such a fun, sweet age, Cannon is so much fun to be around and really lights up my days.
This was a Monday and fairly typical for a day that I don’t go to work. The details may vary but this is a normal Cannon/Mommy day.
******************************************************************************************
4:30 AM My alarm goes off and I struggle to get up….getting up at anytime is a struggle for this 35+ weeks pregnant body. I change into some workout clothes and head downstairs for some coffee.
I can’t have much caffeine right now so it’s more about the habit of having coffee and I can pretend that it is helping me wake up. In the morning I usually try to do some type of strength training or yoga.
I workout until Cannon wakes up for the day.
5:30 AM – Cannon usually wakes up around 5:30, Cory and I switch off getting him up for the day, but often both end up in his room because we can’t wait to see him. Then it’s a whirlwind of diaper changes, getting dressed and heading downstairs for breakfast.
Cannon loves to eat multi grain cheerios, bananas, berries, oatmeal and waffles. He used to love eggs to but has been rejecting them lately, we keep trying though because you never know when he will change his mind again.
6:30 to 8:30 AM we play at home or run errands if we need to after Cory heads off to work. On this Monday we stayed home, played and I finished getting ready for the day.
9:00 – 11:00AM Cannon and I head to a friends house for a playdate. We have a fun group of mom and kids we like to get together with at least once a week to play. Cannon is just getting old enough to really enjoy playing with other kids and loves getting out of the house and around other people. He goes stir crazy really easy if we stay home too long.
11:00 – 11:30 AM we rush home to eat lunch, although Cannon loves to snack throughout the day so lunch usually isn’t much. After lunch we head upstairs to his room where we sit in his rocker, read a book and on most days he falls asleep in my arms. This is one of my favorite things. Cannon is go, go, go all day so it’s nice when he slows down to snuggle.
11:30 AM – 1:30 PM Most days Cannon naps between one and a half to two hours. During this time I will often eat lunch, clean up a little, respond to work emails or work on a blog post if I can. While I LOVE spending the day with Cannon nap time does go by in a flash, it feels more like 15 minutes. This is really the one part of the day that I actually get to sit down.
1:30 PM – 2:00 PM When Cannon wakes up we have a snack, play a little and get ready to head out to the Rec Center.
2:30 PM – 4:00 PM Cannon loves going to the child sitting at our local Rec Center. I started taking him there when he was about 14 months old and he did cry at drop off then (talk about mom guilt!) but now he loves the women who work there and walks in without even thinking to give me a hug. I use the time that he is playing with other kiddos to get in a workout. Right now that looks like about an hour walking hills on the treadmill or elliptical.
4:00 – 4:30 We rush home to meet Cory who usually gets home from work around 4:30.
4:30 – 5:30 We play at home and Cannon usually helps Cory get dinner ready.
5:30 PM – 6:30 PM We eat dinner together before taking taking Cannon upstairs for a bath.
After bath, it’s pajamas and story time
Then one of us cuddles Cannon and puts him down for the night where Cannon usually sleeps all the way to the next morning.
6:30 PM – 9:00 PM After Cannon goes to bed is my main work time. I park myself on the couch with the monitor so I can watch Cannon sleep and laptop for most of the evening.
This schedule doesn’t leave much if any time for me to clean our house or get other things done that I would like to but it does allow me to teach 3/4 time and spend much more time with Cannon than when I worked full time so I can’t complain too much.
9:00 PM I head up to get ready for bed, I am usually exhausted and fall asleep fast.
Soon this schedule will be turned on it’s head by the addition of a little sister.
